How Will I know If I Need A New Roof?
Nov 24, 2020Here are a couple of signs you will see when it is time for a new roof:
Inside your home:
- Take a look inside your attic. Is there light coming through holes in your plywood or between boards in your attic?
- Is there mold growth in your attic? Black mold can be due to moisture and lack of ventilation.
- Are there water stains, signs of water damage, or rotten wood in your attic? Water stains or sagging sheetrock on the ceiling of rooms below are signs of a leak.
On your roof:
If you are uncomfortable getting on your roof or have a steep pitch do not get on your roof! Call us for a professional roof evaluation.
- Cracking shingles
- Loose or missing shingles
- Nail pops: Are nails popping through your shingles or completely out and laying on your roof? You should not be able to see any nail heads on a properly installed roof.
- Boots around pipes are cracked, dried out, or deteriorating.
- Flashing around chimney is failing
- Cracks in valleys
In your gutters
- Shingle granules in your gutters
- Pieces of shingles
Age of your roof:
If you are not having any leaks or issues with your roof but you know it is getting old, an evaluation will tell you if you need to start thinking about a replacement.
- How old is your roof? Not sure? Check with your township to see if any permits have been filed for a roof replacement at your address. Not all townships require permits but it’s a great way to check.
- 15+ years it could not hurt to have your roof evaluated
- 20+ may want to start considering a roof replacement
